New water rates for the city of Monroe will become effective on Feb. 1.

The new rates were approved by the city council in 2007. The new rates will be billable beginning Feb. 1, according to the city of Monroe.

A breakdown of the old and new rates are listed below.

Water rates for consumers inside the city limits shall be:

0 – 1,000,000 gallons per 1000 gallons - from $2.24 (old) to $2.44 (new);

Above 1,000,000 gallons per 1000 gallons - from $2.00(old) to $2.19(new);

The minimum bill will be 0 – 4,000 gallons $9.76 for Water. Minimum bill will be 0 – 4,000 gallons $9.16 for Sewer.

Total minimum bill for inside the city limits with trash: $34.92; and total minimum bill without trash: $18.92

Water rate for consumers outside the city limits shall be:

0 – 1,000,000 gallons per 1000 gallons - from $3.36(old) to $3.66(new);

Above 1,000,000 gallons per 1000 gallons - from $3.00(old) to $3.29(new);

Minimum bill will be 0 – 4,000 gallons $14.64 for Water.

Minimum bill will be 0 – 4,000 gallons $9.16 for Sewer.

Total minimum bill for outside the city limits with trash: $39.80; without trash: $23.80

The new water rate will be billable on Feb. 1.
