Police jury looks at millage renewal
Over the next month, Ouachita Parish Police Jury officials will work with the sheriff's office to determine what to do about the financial situation at Ouachita Correctional Center.

The police jury briefly discussed the matter Tuesday during its regular meeting.

OCC posted a $600,000 deficit at the end of the 2009 fiscal year, and parish officials expect OCC will post another $600,000 deficit at the end of the 2010 fiscal year.

The deficit stems from overpopulation at the parish prison, including the number of pretrial detainees versus Department of Corrections inmates.
