Monroe councilman Ben Katz dies
Monroe District 2 City Councilman Ben Katz, 71, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center.
That's according to the office of State Rep. Kay Kellogg Katz, his wife.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Monroe. Visitation is from 4:30-8 p.m. Friday at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Ben Katz was first elected City Councilman for District 2 in the year 2000. He was re-elected to that office twice (2004 and 2008). His peers on the City Council voted him to serve as the City Council Vice-Chairman for 2007- 2008 and 2008-2009.
Katz also served the City of Monroe in numerous capacities. He was a valuable member of the following: I-20 Economic Development District Board; Ouachita Council of Governments; City of Monroe Insurance Committee; among many other areas of service.
