Ouachita Parish and Monroe city school systems have shown interest in joining the state's application to the U.S. Department of Education's Race to the Top program.

Ouachita Parish Schools Superintendent Dr. Bob Webber said school districts have until Monday to decide if they want to apply for Race to the Top funding, which requires school systems to improve education by focusing on several key components.

Race to the Top requires states to use funds to develop a comprehensive reform agenda around improving teacher and principal effectiveness based on performance, ensuring equitable distribution of effective teachers and principals and providing effective support to teachers and principals.
