The local 2010 Census office will open next week with plans to hire 2,000 people throughout Ouachita and surrounding parishes.

The Monroe census office will officially open Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 3511 Pecanland Mall Drive, Suite B.

Renee McMillion Clark, media consultant with the U.S. Census Bureau, said recruiting will begin soon to hire part-time workers to fill a variety of positions needed during the 2010 Census. The U.S. Census is conducted every 10 years to determine how many people live within the nation's borders.
