Blue Cross, St. Francis remain at impasse

Effective Feb. 1, 2010, St. Francis Medical Center and St. Francis North will not participate in Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance's preferred provider network.

A representative with St. Francis Medical Center said Friday that negotiations were ongoing between Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System and Blue Cross and Blue Shield. St. Francis Medical Center in downtown Monroe and St. Francis North (formerly North Monroe Hospital) are Franciscan Missionaries of Lady Health System medical centers.

Earlier this month, Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana failed to reach an agreement on a new contract for the Franciscan medical centers to participate in Blue Cross's preferred provider network. The impasse concerned a rate increase the Franciscan hospitals sought from Blue Cross Blue Shield for services extended to patients who carry Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance.
