Americorps to use grant for seawall West Monroe Community Development recently received a "Building Healthy Communities" grant from The Home Depot to sponsor a "Seawall Beautification Project" on Trenton Street.
The West Monroe S.E.E. AmeriCorps team will be leading this project, which will take place on the weekend of Jan.16-18, 2010, in conjunction with the national Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Other community volunteers include members from Keep West Monroe Beautiful and officers from the West Monroe Fire Department and West Monroe Police Department.
Cynthia Holland, community development coordinator said, "Trenton Street holds such a significant place in the history of West Monroe and continues to be a popular gateway to so many areas within the city and parish. This seawall beautification project will be a dynamic enhancement to this historic residential area of the city. Once this project is complete, we want to continue our partnership with local volunteer organizations to preserve and maintain the attractiveness of the seawall for years to come."
