How do we move beyond musical chair mentality for our souls?

I wonder if children today still play the game known as "Musical Chairs." I'm sure you remember the wonderful game that offers one less chair than children. I can see the scene vividly in my mind; five children are walking around the circle of four chairs and music is playing. It's quite a festive scene — until the music stops and reality hits. There is not enough to go around. Someone is left out.

Again the music plays. Four children walk around three chairs. There isn't as much giggling. The pace has increased. There is a little shove and a quick push until there are only two children and one chair. This little game seems to offer one of life's most prominent lessons of life — there is never enough. There aren't enough hours in a day or concerned citizens. There isn't enough to go around. There is never enough. Obviously, there are those around us with more than enough and there are those around us with not enough. Especially at this time of the year we want everyone to have enough.
