United Methodist Women of Monroe's Memorial United Methodist Church are getting out the secret recipe and cooking up their famous chicken and shrimp gumbo for the 48th time this year.

The gumbo dinner and bazaar has tempted the appetites of thousands of northeast Louisiana residents since its inception in 1961.

The event this year will be held on Thursday, Nov. 19, in the fellowship hall of the church.
"We will have plenty of gumbo dinners, barbecue brisket sandwiches, ham and cheese sandwiches, slices of pie and cake, and a complete bazaar of baked goods including cakes, pies, sourdough rolls, candy, cookies, pepper sauce, jams and jellies," said UMW bazaar chairwoman Betty Farr.
For details on the bazaar, see Page 3A of this week's Citizen.
