West Monroe puts stimulus money to work
The city of West Monroe will become one of the first municipalities in the state to utilize federal stimulus dollars with the sale of $4.75 million in bonds late this week.
The State Bond Commission approved the sale of $4.75 million in bonds in September, which gave the city of West Monroe the final piece of the financial puzzle to tackle its $20 million Sparta Reuse project.
"This is part of the stimulus package, and it's the first under this program, which is money they're using for green projects (or environmentally-friendly)," said Mayor Dave Norris. "This is going to have a very positive influence on a lot of people."
"There's been a lot of things said about the stimulus package," Norris said. "Some said money was going to wasteful things. Well, this is certainly not in that category. This one will benefit people for a long time."
