Alexander urges Obama to take notice

U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, today sent a letter to President Obama urging him to closely monitor the current flood conditions in North Louisiana, specifically, the rising levels of the Ouachita River, Lake D'Arbonne and Bayou D'Arbonne.

As of Monday, Nov. 2, the Ouachita River had risen above 46 feet and is predicted to crest at 48.5 feet. This is the fourth highest level on record, and is particularly troubling since the flood stage is 40 feet in Monroe.

Alexander requested that the president designate needed resources to North Louisiana.

"I ask that you direct the necessary attention and resources to monitor the current conditions in the Monroe area in order to ensure the safety of the residents and the community as a whole," stated Alexander in his letter.

As concerns continue to increase, Alexander reiterated the necessity of vital preparation.

"We must work hand-in-hand with local, state and federal officials to prepare for the worst. Too much preparation is better than too little, and we must stand ready to assist."
