Story Archives: River Oaks visits Claiborne

River Oaks visits Claiborne
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The River Oaks Mustangs (9-1) will visit Claiborne Academy this Friday in the final regular season game of the 2009 MAIS campaign.

River Oaks has kept busy during a bye week, working to fine tune their scheme while also getting some key contributors healthy for the playoff run.

Linebackers Stven Bragg and David Harris were held out against CenLa but are expected to return this week against Claiborne. Lance Ginn has also been battling injuries that he is looking to return from after the bye week.

The Mustangs also used the two-week prep time to get back to basics and clean up some things on both offense and defense.

Many teams have been unable to stop the Mustangs this season. A steady and balanced offense has thrown off opponents week after week as the Mustangs keep rolling along.

Turnovers have stalled some drives and the run defense has not always been a stone wall, but that has not stopped the Mustangs from getting a top playoff seed come next week.

Claiborne has had some success running the ball on a few MAIS teams this season and it will give the River Oaks team a chance to get back into the grind of slowing the run before the playoffs.

Not much can hurt the Mustangs in the standings now after wrapping up the district championship two weeks ago.

Staying healthy and focused is the task at hand for River Oaks now as they try to return to the championship game this season.

"At first I was kind of regretting that we had the bye week," Hannah said. "But now we will be able to get some people healthy and rest bumps and bruises."
