Carroll hosts Marksville Friday
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Carroll Bulldogs (6-1, 1-1) host Marksville in a non-district tilt this Friday at 7 p.m.
Carroll is coming off their third-straight victory after beating Madison Parish 21-0 last week.

Carroll has already surpassed their win total of the past two years combined and many contribute the success to the work the players and coaches did before the first snap of the regular season.

"The key has been the kids committing themselves this summer," Carroll head coach Jackie Hamilton said. " I told them victories start in the summer and it is paying off."

The win against Madison included a great special teams performance by Carroll. Pierre Martin and Cordell Collins each recorded punt returns for touchdowns.

Quarterback Xavier Gray got the C-Dogs on the scoreboard first with a 25-yard scramble to pay dirt.

The lone Madison points came late in the game after Carroll failed to convert a fourth down at midfield and Madison turned the mistake into points on the ensuing drive.

Marksville will present Carroll's defense with the unique challenge of using a three-quarterback system and a bruising rushing attack that can eat minutes off the clock.
Carroll will work to score more consistently and rest their defense a bit more as the playoff picture becomes clear over the next three weeks.

"We feed off of our defense," Hamilton said. "The way they played last week was not surprising at all. We do need to see more consistency in our offense. We have not been scoring in the red zone enough."
