Several Ouachita Parish students were recently recognized for joining the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts in Natchitoches.

Each year, the LSMSA holds a special ceremony at the beginning of each school year to welcome its new students.

Attending LSMSA this year from Ouachita Parish are: Karachi Achilihu, daughter of Carolyn and Onye Achilihu; Taylor Allen, daughter of Marcy and John Allen; Amala Ifediora, daughter of Effie and Okechukwu Ifediora; Jasleen Kang, daughter of Kitty Aulakh and Hardial Kang; Kathryn Lackey, daughter of Kelly and Bradford Lackey; Elliott Moore, son of Sarah and Gregory Moore; Ayush Narayan, daughter of Sushma and Savita Krishnamurthy; Kentrell Owens, son of Sharon Owens and William Roberson; Andrew Tan, son of Xiaoan Wang and Jun Tan; Margaret Trammell, daughter of Lisa Sullivan and Robert Trammell; and John Vu, son of Khanh Vu.

The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts had state superintendent of Education Paul Pastorek deliver the keynote address at its 27th Matriculation Ceremony on Sept 4 in Natchitoches.

LSMSA enrolled 344 students for the 2009-2010 term.

The Matriculation Ceremony welcomed 157 new sophomores, juniors, and seniors who made the choice to challenge themselves academically and become a part of LSMSA.
The national average ACT score for graduating seniors last year was 21.1.

In Louisiana the state average was 20.1, but at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts, the composite ACT score from the class of 2009 was 29.
