Warriors battle Cougars
by Michael DeVault - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The next chapter in the storied rivalry between St. Frederick High School and Ruston's Cedar Creek will unfold this weekend when the Warriors invade Cougar country Friday night.

The Warriors hope to avoid a repeat of last year's matchup, which saw the Cougars prevail, 41-21.

This year, though, the Warriors have momentum on their side, coming off a 34-13 win over the LaSalle Tigers last week.

In that game, quarterback Nick Leehy led the offense with 148 overall yards and 91 yards in the air.

Running back Josh Owens came in with 109 yards on the ground. Combined, the two players accounted for more than 150 total yards in the game.

Meanwhile, Warriors coach Paul Guerriero made good on a pledge to find the end zone when his squad reached the red zone.

St. Frederick came home with four TDs and a field goal, while the Warrior defense made fast work of the Tigers offensive line, holding LaSalle to just 13 points.

This weekend's matchup will prove decisive as the Warriors hope to continue building momentum in near the mid-point of the 2009 season.

Cedar Creek will have to play hard and fast if they hope to break the Warriors' winning streak.

That could be a difficult task for Coach Corwyn Aldredge's Cougars, who take the field with a 1-4 record.
