Carroll opens distrct play against Caldwell

Carroll High School opens District 2-3A play with a home contest against Caldwell.

"It's a whole new season," said Carroll head coach Jackie Hamilton. "This is the money part of the season."

The key to shutting down Caldwell will be slowing down Spartan running back Centarius Donald, one of the top running backs in the state.

Donald scored on runs of 8 and 11 yards in Caldwell's 16-15 win over Wossman last week.

"But they also have a very good fullback," Hamilton said. "We have to stop their running game, that's the key. And our offense has to put points on the board. We revamped our offense from the spread to a pro set and are more balanced now. We need to be able to move the ball and keep it away from them."

Carroll High bounced back from its only loss of the season relying on what it does best — defense.

The C-Dogs blanked Franklin Parish 28-0.

Carroll scored on a 10-yard touchdown run by Tyree Hollins and scored in all but the third quarter of the contest.

Quarterback Xavier Gray added a 26-yard touchdown to give the C-Dogs a 14-0 lead at the half.

"We had a good week of practice and the weather really cooperated," Hamilton said.
