Flu shots available for seniors The Ouachita Parish Health Unit , the West Ouachita Senior Center and the Ouachita Council on Aging will host a Seasonal West and East Ouachita flu shot day for seniors 65 and older and for at-risk West and East Ouachita Parish residents.
The West Ouachita Seasonal Senior Flu Shot site will be at the West Monroe Convention Center from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13.
The East Ouachita Seasonal Senior Flu Shot site will be at the Ouachita Council on Aging (2407 Ferrand Street, Monroe, LA) from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15.
Adults with long-term heart or lung problems, diabetes, asthma, sickle cell disease, aspirin therapy for arthritis, or suppressed immune systems (cancer) should also get the vaccine. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people over age 65 should also get a dose of pneumonia vaccine and a tetanus vaccine every 10 years.
A $10 per person administration fee will be charged, but there is no fee for Medicare recipients. Pre-registration is requested to expedite services in West Monroe.
Pre-registration/consent forms are available at the West Ouachita Senior Center, 1800 North 7th Street. Call (318) 324-1280, if you are not able to pick-up your consent form at the front desk to make an appointment by card. |
