Bulldogs meet Patriots

The Carroll Bulldogs will look to bounce back after a disappointing loss to Neville last week when they travel to battle the Franklin Parish Patriots Friday.

Carroll (3-1) is coming off their first loss of the season last week, falling to the Neville Tigers, 37-13.

Carroll quarterback Xavier Gray also hopes to rebound in this game and get back on track as the dual-threat he has become known for each week.

The senior gunslinger has shown his ability over the past three seasons, getting the job done with his arm and legs. However, he was replaced with Jamond Collins in the second half against Neville due to ineffectiveness early in the game.

Collins provided one of the few touchdowns of the night for Carroll, scoring on a quarterback sneak from the Neville 3-yard line late in the game.

Offensively, the Bulldogs had several costly mental errors, fumbling the ball eight times and only amassing 10 yards of total offense.

The Patriots will also look to rebound from their loss against Oak Grove last week when they host the Bulldogs at Patriot Stadium 7 p.m. Friday.

The Patriots (2-2) fought hard to get a victory last week against a talented Oak Grove team, but could not get over the hump as they fell in overtime, 26-20.

"We played a good football game against a real good team," Franklin Parish head coach Barry Sebren said. "I felt like we were the better team the entire game. Afterwards, we just told them how proud we were for their effort."

"I think playing teams like Lake Providence and Mangham prepared us well for an offense like Carroll," Sebren said. "I think the guys will continue to work hard and not let this type of loss bother them too much."

The Patriots will need to improve on the offensive line play to move the ball against the Bulldog defense, Sebren said.

"We have got to become more intense on the offensive line this week," Sebren said. "They have to step up and block better. We have had some mediocre effort so far."
