OCS meets familiar foe Friday

Calvary Baptist is no stranger to Ouachita Christian head coach Steven Fitzhugh — in a lot of ways.

OCS plays at Calvary Friday.

"They are really a mirror of us," Fitzhugh said. "They lost a lot of seniors last year and are playing a number of young guys. They lost their first two games and won their last two, while we won our first two and lost our last two. But we are both just a couple of plays from being 4-0.

Calvary is coached by Bo Meeks, who faced Fitzhugh as head coach at Mangham the past three years.

"Bo is still doing the same things and brought his defensive coordinator over from Mangham who is still running a 4-4 defense."

OCS fell to Homer 28-23 last week.

Homer's Tony Casey rushed for 284 yards and scored four touchdowns.

"He went over 1,000 yards in the game, so we're not the only ones who couldn't stop him," Fitzhugh said.

Eagles quarterback Paul Michael Garner threw for 257 yards in the contest, while Mark Laird had seven catches for 136 yards.

"Our defense played extremely well in the first half, and our offense didn't and then they kind of flip-flopped in the second half," Fitzhugh said. "But playing these types of teams is helping us. We're in the fire every play."
