GRMC surgeon first in La. to place SAVI applicator
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Dr. William T. Ferguson, member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, recently became the first surgeon in Louisiana to place the SAVI applicator on a breast cancer patient post lumpectomy at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe.

SAVI (Strut Assisted Volume Implant) offers advancement in the field of partial breast radiation for women with breast cancer undergoing breast conservation therapy.

Breast conservation therapy includes lumpectomy — the surgical removal of the cancerous tissue within the breast plus tissue immediately around the tumor — followed by radiation. This approach is an alternative to the mastectomy in certain breast cancer patients.
