Cottonland Cluster this weekend in Monroe
The 37th annual Cotton Land Cluster of Dog Show will be held this weekend at the Monroe Civic Center.
This year's show, from Aug. 28-31, will have 4 All Breed Shows as well as 13 Specialty Shows.
The Specialty Shows include Basset Hounds, Boxers, Chinese Cresteds, Chinese Shar-Peis, Giant Schnauzers, German Shepherds and Vizslas. The panel of judges for the event hail from 11 different states, Canada and Costa Rico.
More than 100 professional handlers from nearly every state will be participating. Last years show brought 133 different breeds and their handlers from 40 states, Canada, Mexico and Costa Rico to the area.
The 2009 schedule of events is as follows:

8/29- Cowtown Chinese Crested Club (Ft Worth)
8/29- German Shepherd Dog Club of Greater Ouachita Specialty Show
8/29- Giant Schnauzer Club of America Regional Specialty Show
8/29- South Louisiana Vizsla Club (Lafayette) Specialty Show
8/30- Vicksburg Kennel Club All Breed Show
8/30- Basset Hound Club of Bayou Country Specialty Show
8/30- Chinese Shar-Pei Club of America Regional Specialty Show
8/30- Cowtown Chinese Crested Club (Ft Worth)

8/30- South Louisiana Vizsla Club (Lafayette)
8/31- Vicksburg Kennel Club All Breed Show
On Saturday, Aug. 29, the Southern Handlers Charity League will hold a Charity Fun Match, and the Basset Hound Club of Bayou Country will hold a "Meet the Breed" demonstration.
The shows will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily.
Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children.
Proceeds from the spectator gate will be donated to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Canine Unit.
Past shows have raised over $192,000 that have been donated to Sheriff's Canine Units, Humane Societies and scholarships to both LSU and ULM for veterinary medicine students.
