Crystal ball working again It's time to bring out the ol' crystal ball again.
It was beaming two years ago when I picked LSU to win the National Championship, even though I had them going unbeaten on the season.
Last year I had the Tigers finishing 11-2 and they went 8-5.
So I sent my crystal ball in for repairs. After two days they told me they still had not found the problem. They lost it on the third day. And then on the fourth day they called and said, "Mr. Martin we seem to have found the problem." How was I to know you have to plug the darn thing in?
But anyway, it's back glowing brighter than ever and ready to tell me how the 2009 edition of the LSU Tigers is going to do this season.
Right now it's just nice not to hear the name Ryan Perrilloux every week.
Jordan Jefferson has everyone forgetting about Perrilloux and Russell Sheppard has everyone forgetting about Jarrett Lee. And I would love to see come in and have some great games this year because the guy has been nothing but class through all the hard times.
LSU starts off in Washington against the Huskies. Man, can you imagine Huey Long or John McKeithen approving of opening that far away?
Washington went winless last year. LSU strikes quickly and the Huskies don't recover — LSU in a runaway.
Vanderbilt comes to town the following week and this is not your typical Vandy team. Look for the Commodores to scrap before LSU can pull away in the end.
Louisiana-Lafayette visits Tiger Stadium the following week and LSU wins ugly in a runaway.
A trip to Mississippi State gives LSU a glimpse of what is to come in Bulldog country under Dan Mullen. In a wild affair that lasts almost four hours as Mullen has his squad throwing the ball all over the place, LSU wins by 17.
A trip between the hedges starts out October. Georgia put 52 on LSU last year. There's something magical about playing in the state of Georgia for the Tigers, however. LSU by a field goal.
Florida comes to town on Oct. 10. This one is going to be a slobberknocker. Florida has its toughest test of the season, but walks away with a W, winning a most memorable encounter by two points.
LSU rebounds the following week against Auburn and puts Tulane away before heading to Tuscaloosa for the huge encounter with a guy named Nick.
The Tigers come up just short once again, but it will be the final loss of the season as LSU sweeps November with wins over Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss and Arkansas to finish second in the SEC West.
No Georgia Dome this time as LSU lands a BCS contest against Oklahoma State, defeating the Cowboys to go 11-2 and finish back in the top 10 with even higher goals for 2010. |
