This week in The Ouachita Citizen This week's edition of The Ouachita Citizen features:
Drugs No. 1 health danger In 1993, the Ouachita Parish prison, commonly known then as the "Pea Farm," housed 162 pre-trial detainees. That was a high number back then. Today, there are more than 500 pre-trial detainees incarcerated at the parish prison, or commonly known today as Ouachita Correctional Center. For more, see this week's edition of The Ouachita Citizen.
Police jurors spend $1.4M on three drainage projects The Ouachita Parish Police Jury agreed to spend $1.4 million in hazard mitigation funding for three off-road drainage projects. Action was taken Monday during the police jury's regular meeting. Last month, the parish received the $1.4 million Hazard Mitigation Grant from the state. Gov. Bobby Jindal presented it during a speaking engagement at the Monroe Rotary Club. The money was allocated to Ouachita Parish through the Louisiana Recovery Authority and the governor's Office of Homeland Security. For more, see this week's edition of The Ouachita Citizen.
Volunteers stand up for abused children Dozens of local residents took time Tuesday to stand for children in northeast Louisiana who have been abused or neglected. The event was CASA of Northeast Louisiana's inaugural "Stand Up For A Child So They Can Stand A Chance" where people gathered at American Legion Hall on Forsythe Avenue to show their support for these children. |
