Black Bayou's Wild Friday set for July 31 This month's "Wild Friday" will be held at 7:30 p.m. July 31.
Louisiana Delta Community College's Math & Science Department and the Ouachita Valley astronomy League will present an evening under the stars at the Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge's Conservation Learning Center.
Viewers will be able to observe Jupiter low in the southeastern sky along with the first quarter moon as it sets in the west. Additional objects visible will be several globular clusters, distant galaxies and nebulae. Viewers are encouraged to bring binoculars. Local story teller Don Munsey will set the stage by telling tales relating how the ancients viewed the heavens and the constellations.
Inside the CLC, each participant will construct their own star-finder wheel and star clock to take home.
Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located off U.S. Hwy 165 about seven miles north of I-20. "Wild Friday" programs are free and open to the public. For information, contact Gay Brantley at 387-1114. |
