Jindal delivers $5.1 million for recovery efforts Gov. Bobby Jindal presented local leaders Thursday with $5.1 million to help offset expenses incurred here for hurricane recovery efforts and hazard mitigation.
Jindal made the check presentation at the Monroe Civic Center prior to speaking to the Monroe Rotary Club.
The two grants include a federal Community Development Block Grant totaling $3.7 million and a Hazard Mitigation Grant totaling $1.5 million.
The disaster recovery money could be used by the parish for projects to help mitigate problems that occurred when the hurricanes passed through northeast Louisiana last year.
Numerous homes and neighborhoods flooded when Hurricane Gustav hit Ouachita Parish in early September 2008.
Drainage improvement projects to address flooding have been a focus of several police jurors for the past several months.
Parish engineer Don Harrison said recently that the disaster recovery money could possibly be used to address drainage projects to eliminate future flooding problems. |
