Track club takes 36 locals to regional tournament

The Peak Performance Track Club of Monroe will send 36 athletes to the USA Regional Junior Olympics Track & Field Champions in Murfreesboro, Tenn. this weekend.

The youth will be competing for a top-three finish in their events in hopes of qualifying for the National Junior Olympics Championships on July 30-Aug. 2, in Greensboro, N.C.

Each of the local athletes finished in the top five of their respective events at the Southern Association Championships that were held June 27-28 in St. Francisville.

More than 700 athletes competed from the states of Louisiana and Mississippi in St. Francisville. Thirty-six local athletes qualified in 70 different events and classes. The 22-team event featured some top performances and gold medal finishes for Peak Performance athletes.

Fifteen gold, 15 silver, and 20 bronze medals were won by the local kids during the regional event

Peak Performance track and field athletes representing the parish this weekend (8-years-old and under) will be DeJuan Gray and in the Bantam Division (9-10 years) will be Katie Aldredge, and Madeline Mills and in the Midget Division (11-12 years) will be Aubrey Gamble, Kenton Davis, and Hunter Tolar and in the Youth Division (13-14 years) will be Christina Austin, Brittney Gamble, Peyton Glynn, Ethan Gremillion, Ahkeem Henderson, James Malone, and Delwin Nelson and in the Intermediate Division (15-16 years) will be Catherine Buchan, Xavier Davis, Christopher Evans, Trey Houston, Caleb Smith and Maggie Sylvester and in the Young Women's & Men's Division (17-18 years) will be Ashley Aldredge, Colleen Butler, Jennifer Goss, Alexis Guice, Dillondria Hargrove, Tiffany Shetters, Emily Spence, Krista Townley, Chimere Achilihu,  Dimitri Hampton, Jacob Heckford, Isaac Moore, Brett Tolar and Neil Watkins.
