A birthday celebration for June Golson Eby was held Saturday, June 20, at Bayou Desiard Country Club in Monroe.

Hosted by Lynda and Harry McGehee, Sandra and Chris Eby, and Leah and Glenn Stewart, the party was held to honor "Mama June," who turned 90 on June 25.

As friends and family gathered they were greeted by her grandchildren, Lionel Eby McGehee and Thomas P. Smith, Elizabeth McGehee Coyne, Amy McGehee FitzGerald and Todd, June Crosley McGehee, Wesley Eby Johnson and Bruce, John Christian Eby III, Shelley Stewart Crowder and Ben and Grover Webb Stewart.

Mama June then visited with guests as they enjoyed a cocktail buffet, the music of The Rod Allen Payne Trio featuring Lisa Spann and Tony Cortellini, and the flowers arranged by family friend, Ron Downing and daughter, Sarah Downing Watley.

Impressive flower arrangements on the entrance and food tables held white gladiolus, roses and blue delphiniums. Table arrangements in the Fireside Room included a special touch of magnolia leaves and a picture of Mama June as a young girl.

A tribute to Mama June was given by her son, Chris, He noted that Mama June, who never wanted to be the center of attention, has touched the lives of all with whom she comes in contact, be it someone she has known for years, months, or hardly at all.

Guests then sang Happy Birthday, especially enjoyed by Mama June's great-grandchildren, Grace Elizabeth Coyne, Hannah Rose Coyne, Kate Crosley McGehee, Stella Eby FitzGerald, Florine Kendrick FitzGerald, Emma Jane Johnson, Helen McLain Johnson and Keith Christian Johnson.

As guests departed they received a scroll which included some of Mama June's favorite sayings and reflections on life, lovingly gathered by her friend, Vici French.

The celebrated occasion was a time for Mama June's Golson and Webb families to gather as they shared memories with each other.

Her parents, Dr. John Wesley Golson and Neita Webb Golson were from West Monroe where Dr. Golson practiced dentistry for many years.

William Webb, Mama June's grandfather, was the owner of the Webb Hotel, now known as the Rose Lee Inn, in the Cotton Port District.
