The Genentech Foundation of San Francisco has awarded a $100,000 grant to the West Monroe-based Jake Owen Raborn Foundation in support of its mission of assisting families struggling with pediatric cancer.

"We are deeply appreciative of this generous grant from such a respected foundation," Don Raborn, president of the Jake Owen Raborn Foundation, said.

Founded in 2006, the Jake Owen Raborn Foundation (www.jakesfoundation.org) is a non-profit foundation dedicated to financially supporting families enduring pediatric cancer, as well as providing financial support to organizations and facilities that care for families enduring pediatric cancer.

"The grant was made through Genentech Foundation's Everyday Needs Assistance Program," Raborn said. "Like us, it works to ease the financial burden of families while they seek care for their child." Genentech Foundation (www.genentechfoundation.com) was established in 2002 by Genentech, a leading biotechnology company.

The Jake Owen Raborn Foundation is named in memory of Jake Owen Raborn who died of a rare liver cancer at age four in October 2006. "Our mission," Raborn said, "is guided by the principle of 'paying it forward,' helping others and encouraging them in turn to do the same in a caring, ever-widening undertaking. We know that's what Jake wants."
