The West Monroe Outlaws, a 13-and-under Major team, will be one of 32 teams throughout the country participating in the USSSA Elite World Series in Orlando, Fla.

Twelve teams from coast-to-coast were in Sulphur on June 6 for the Governor's Games XI. The Outlaws placed second in the tournament where teams from as far away as Miami, Fla. and Nogales, Ariz. came to play.

There were 22 qualifying tournaments held across the country for the USSSA Elite World Series. The classic in Sulphur was the lone event held in the state of Louisiana.

The road to the Disney World event was not easy for the Outlaws. The local squad came up with a 4-4 tie in their opening game during pool play.

The Outlaws tied the game and then could not break through with enough offensive firepower to get past the Nogales Roadrunners from Arizona in the tournament's opening game.

The Outlaws got back on track in their final contest of pool play with a dominating win over the South Florida Extreme by a score of 10-3.

In bracket play, the Outlaws dominated the Baton Rouge natives known as the Louisiana Giants, 5-0.

The South Florida Extreme again stood in the way of the West Monroe Outlaws from reaching their ultimate championship dreams.

The Outlaws responded with a shootout victory, 7-6, over their Miami, Fla. adversaries. Key defensive play and timely hitting contributed to the positive outcome for the local squad.

The championship game against Bandito Black of Houston saw the two teams lock-up in a grueling offensive slugfest.

A late rally put Bandito Black over the top and the Texans took the championship with a 7-6 victory in Sulphur.

The National tournament at Disney World will take place Aug. 2-8 in Orlando, Fla.

The Outlaws are guaranteed to play at least five games.

The local group also will get to watch some of the best teams from around the nation. The tournament will produce two teams in lower age groups that will represent USSSA at the National Youth Championship tournament in August.
