College football season is officially on the horizon as Phil Steele released his annual preseason all-conference teams recently. ULM landed four players on the first team and had 12 total selections by the college football pundit.

A quartet of Warhawk seniors, linebacker Cardia Jackson, safety Greg James, punter Scott Love and defensive tackle Aaron Williams were all tabbed to the first team.

Jackson finished eighth in the NCAA last season averaging 10.6 tackles per game. The Monroe, native had 127 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks and two interceptions during the 2008 campaign.

James enters the 2009 season as the NCAA's active career leader with 13 interceptions. The Monroe native is just two interceptions shy of tying the all-time ULM mark of 15 and is just one pick shy of the all-time Sun Belt Conference mark of 14.

Love, a first team All-Sun Belt selection in 2007, finished fourth in the league last season averaging 39.6 yards per punt. The West Monroe native boasts a career average of 40.7 yards per punt and is ULM's single-season leader in punts downed inside the 20-yard line with 23 in 2007.

Williams finished the 2008 season with 29 tackles and a sack in his first year with the Warhawks after transferring from Pearl River Community College. The Ridgeland, Miss., native is expected to flourish in ULM's new 3-3-5 defensive scheme this season.

Senior offensive lineman Ryan Dercher, junior running back Frank Goodin and senior defensive end Aaron Morgan were all selected to the second team.

Junior offensive lineman Doug Stroud and senior linebacker Josh Thomas were third team selections. Sophomore kick returner Luther Ambrose, sophomore cornerback Nate Brown and junior safety Troy Giddens were all tabbed to the fourth team.

The Warhawks, who return eight starters on both offense and defense, open the 2009 season in Austin, Texas, on Sept. 5 against the Texas Longhorns.
