Sparta project lands state funding

West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris received confirmation that the state plans to spend an additional $4.7 million on the Sparta Reuse Project.

Last year, Gov. Bobby Jindal said the state would commit $7.6 million in state capital outlay funding for the Sparta Aquifer rehabilitation project.

It has been estimated that the project could cost up to $20 million.

Numerous studies have been conducted to show that if the Sparta issue is not addressed soon, northeast Louisiana residents would see water wells dry up and the region would eventually lose an important asset in the aquifer.
