Raise a Nutt, not a fool
 Les Miles has to be smiling hat corner to hat corner.
The Birmingham News released its 2009 SEC Preseason football poll which is voted on by SEC Sports Information Directors in their respective divisions.
LSU is ranked No. 3 in the SEC West.
Wow, didn't some polls have the Tigers No. 3 in the nation last year?
No bulls eye. No high expectations. No pressure.
Do you actually need any more motivation than that?
For the record, Alabama received five of the six first place votes in the SEC West, finishing with 25 total points.
Ole Miss received the other first place vote.
I wonder if Coach Miles told LSU SID Michael Bonnette not to vote him in the top spot.
Ole Miss finished with 20 points.
LSU is third with 18 points.
Arkansas and Auburn both finished with 11 points, while Mississippi State totaled five.
Florida got five No. 1 votes and totaled 25 points.
Georgia got the other vote and finished with 21 points. South Carolina and Tennessee totaled 14 points, while Vanderbilt and Kentucky had nine and seven points, respectively.
Speaking of the SEC, on the final day of the spring business meeting, league presidents unanimously approved a rule limiting conference football teams to signing just 28 players annually.
NCAA rules allow teams just 25 scholarships per year, but SEC schools generally over sign players, anticipating a portion of the ones they sign won't academically qualify. The new SEC rule takes effect immediately.
No one will come out and say it, but the new rule is obviously a reaction to Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt who signed 37 players in February. Nutt explained why he over signed so many players, saying "I wanted to really make sure we had a good relationship with the state of Mississippi high schools. We knew that seven to eight of those guys wouldn't qualify. We were able to help some Mississippi junior colleges."
Let's take a look at some former Mississippi junior college football players — Kenneth Hollins (LSU), Cortez Kennedy (Miami), Walter Jones (Florida State), John Copeland (Alabama), Michael Myers (Alabama), Duce Staley (South Carolina), Jason Ferguson (Georgia) and Juran Bolden, who went straight to the Atlanta Falcons, Claude Wroten (LSU), Patrick Trahan (Ole Miss) and Demetrius Byrd (LSU)just to name a few.
His mama may have raised a Nutt, but the man is no fool.
NBA Finals
I was expecting and looking forward to a marquee matchup between Kobe Bryant and LeBron James in the NBA Finals, thinking it could be one of the best ever with these two greats going at each other.
Kobe will be there, but not LeBron. And now I am glad after James walked off the court in his last game this season Saturday, without shaking the hands with players from Orlando who kept the immature star from reaching his first Finals.
And to make matters even worse, if that's possible, James said. "I'm a winner. It's not being a poor sport or anything like that. But somebody beats you up, you're not going to congratulate them on beating you up. That (doesn't) make sense."
Then why shake hands with the players from the teams you eliminated, LeBron?
What doesn't make sense is for someone who has the world at their feet to act like a spoiled little baby who didn't get his way.
LeBron's stock dropped a whole bunch with his selfish act at the end of the road.
But when you go straight from high school to the NBA, you miss out on a lot of lessons. Coaches like Mike Krzyzewski would not have tolerated that type of behavior from their players.
It's just another bad example to send down to high school players who emulate everything done in the NBA.
You are a role model, LeBron. And in your last appearance, you played a bad role.
