Mrs. Dorothy Turpin Amman, 91, of Monroe, passed away at home on Sunday, May 17, 2009.
Her funeral was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Msgr. Edmund Moore officiating. Interment followed at St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements were by Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fred C. Amman Jr.; her parents, Allen Thurman and Lucile Corbin Turpin; brothers, Allen T. Turpin Jr. and Corbin J. Turpin.S
Survivors include her brother, Carl T. Turpin; her four children, Evelyn Hahn and husband, Bob, Dottie Hardy and husband, Bill Bailey, Frederic Amman and wife, Martha, and Corbin Amman and wife, Jeannie; 12 grandchildren, Walter Ligon and wife, Becky, Dottie Thornton and husband, Chris, Melissa Hardy, George Hardy, Francie Amman, Perry Estis and husband, Brett, Rebecca Sonnier and husband, Kory, Kathryn Joyce and husband, Jeff, Corbin Amman and wife, Amy, Lisa Amman and husband, Phil Stiger, Mary Anice Amman, and Frederic Amman; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Walter B. Ligon III, Walter B. Ligon IV, Corbin T. Amman Jr., George W. Hardy IV, Frederic E. Amman, and Leonard Ligon. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Corbin J. Turpin Jr., Jefferson W. Turpin, Dr. Allen T. Turpin, William A. Turpin, Dr. Carl T. Turpin Jr., and Delton Hearn.
Becky Ellen Avant
Funeral services for Ms. Becky Ellen Avant, 44, of West Monroe, were at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in West Monroe, with Rev. Danny Hawthorne officiating. Interment was at Kilpatrick's Serenity Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Huey Avant and her nephew, Mathew Avant.
Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer Scallon and husband, Scott; three beautiful granddaughters, Caroline, Madison and Alyssa; her mother, Pauline Avant; brothers, Charles Avant, and Bill Avant and wife, Vicky; sisters, Lisa Allen and husband, Junior, Margie Strother and husband, Terry, and Polly Vail and husband, Don; 16 nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, J.C. Neathery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Avant, Shane Kirby, Wendell Avant, John Cole, Chad Vail and David Duke.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Louisiana or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Helen M. Jackson Beard
Funeral services for Mrs. Helen M. Jackson Beard, 84, of West Monroe, were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Rick McPherson officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe.
Survivors include her husband, E. V. "Buddy" Beard Jr.; children, Gordon E. Beard and wife, Elizabeth, and Vicky B. Thomas; grandchildren, Yancey S. Thomas, USN, Brandon E. Beard, Jessica M. James, Nicholas G. Beard, and S. Alex Beard; great-grandchild, Dayton Beard LeJeune; sister, Virginia Crowell Heckford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mattie Jo Townsend Brossett, 69, of Hebert, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009.
Her funeral was at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Job Edathinatt officiating. Interment was at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph David Brossett; daughter, Cindy Brossett of Hebert; son, Culley Brossett and wife, Jan, of Friendswood, Texas; daughter-in-law, Karen Connolly of Clarks; four grandchildren, Jeb, Mindy, Matt and Ashley; three brothers; and four sisters.
Pallbearers were Matt Brossett, Paul Brossett, Alan Brossett, Jeb Griggs, Corey Hammons and Josh Smith.
Buford James Bruce
Buford James (B.J. Or Scout) Bruce, 83, of West Monroe, passed away at home on Friday, May 15, 2009 after a lengthy illness.
His funeral was at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 18, at Mulhearn Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Stafford officiating. Burial was in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Clemons Andrew Bruce and Ira Amanda Goasha Bruce and his brother, Reggie Bruce.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Davis Bruce; his daughter, Kerry King Tranum & husband, Bill; his son, Harry Andrew Bruce; two great-grandsons, Andrew Minor King and James Nathanael King; one great-granddaughter, Bailey Renee Bruce; four step-grandchildren, Gabriel Earl Tranum, Tiffany Tranum Essary and husband, Jeremy, Jacob Lowery Tranum, and William Joseph Tranum; and four step-great grandchildren, Olivia Jane Essary, Gabriel Tyler Essary, Savannah Grace Essary, and Ruth Anne Essary.
Pallbearers were Charlie Dantzler, Mike Dolecheck, Eros Ginn, Bob Kelly, Andy King, James King, Charles Smith and Everette Zeagler. Honorary pallbearers were W.A. Walker, Charlie Page, Earnest St. John and Tom Day.
Joseph David Eppinette
Joseph David Eppinette, 17, of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at North Monroe Baptist Church, with Rev. Bodie Spicer officiating. Interment was at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Timmy and Sallie Eppinette.
Survivors include his parents, Johnny and Anita Eppinette; sister, Sally Eppinette of Monroe; maternal grandparents, Gloria Greer of West Monroe, and Jimmy and JoAnn Greer of El Dorado, Ark.; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Pallbearers were Dillon Lockwood, Andy Roberts, Ryan Gebhardt, Reid Bray, Kelby McKoin, Corey Christianson, David Wright, Adam Coco, Tyler Wheeler and Heath O'Neal. Honorary pallbearers were the incoming seniors at Ouachita Parish High School.
Marie Gilmore
Mrs. Marie "Honey" Gilmore, 61, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009.
Her funeral was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Bryan Laue officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Ball.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry T. Gilmore of Monroe; daughter, Tara L. Gilmore of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Jackie Albright of West Monroe; and cousin-in-law, Claude Friloux of Monroe.
Pallbearers were friends and members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Katherine Goyne
"Kat" Goyne, 88, of West Monroe passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2009, after an extended illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Bennie Goyne, and her parents Clara Meta Moore and Rev. T.W. Wagnon.
Survivors include her daughter Glenda Salley (and the late John Salley ) of West Monroe; grandchildren, John Lambert and wife, Jennifer Lambert ,of West Monroe, Katherine Claire Clary and husband, Raymond Clary, of Cape Coral, Fla., and Susannah Ruth Salley of West Monroe; great-grandchildren, Stephan "Alex" Clary of Cape Coral, Fla., Lauren Katherine Lambert of West Monroe, and Sarah Lambert Payne, and husband, Cody Payne, of Pineville; great-great grandchild, Adam Payne of Pineville; Siblings, Cortez Wagnon and wife, Melva, Wagnon of Little Rock, Ark., John C Wagnon and wife, Pauline, Wagnon of Lafayette, Mary Buckley and husband, A.C. Buckley, of Farmerville, and Faith Matthews of Farmerville.
A memorial service was held at First Assembly of God Church of Farmerville at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 24. The service was officiated by Pastors Duane Amos and Byron Boykin.
Alice Hemphill
Mrs. Alice Hemphill, 83, of West Monroe, passed away May 17, 2009, in West Monroe.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe, with Rev. Lindle Stewart officiating. Interment was at Kilpatrick's Serenity Gardens in West Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Scott Hemphill.
Survivors include her five children: Lamar Hemphill and wife, Diane, Janet Hemphill McCraw and husband, Jim, Pam Hemphill McCready and husband, Kenny, Randy L.H. Hemphill and Ginger Kay Hemphill; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Shawnesy Thompson, Shannon Frith, Brad Frith, Chad Harrington, Seth Thompson and Joel McCready.
Mildred B. Henderson
Mrs. Mildred B. Henderson, 86, of Monroe, began her life with the Lord Wednesday, May 20, 2009.
Her funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. William L. Smith officiating. Interment was at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luvesta and Ora Lee Blackwell; and five siblings.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Delbert L. Henderson; and two sisters, Inis Holmes and Mary B. Magee and husband, William. She also leaves behind many precious memories with her numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers were Barney Tucker, Sherman Thompson, Perry Magee, Jeff Wood, Jimmy Ray Henderson and Kenneth Ray Johnson.
Charles Kendrick
Mr. Charles "Chuck" Kendrick, 55, of West Monroe, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009, in Shreveport.
Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Liberty Grove Church of God in West Monroe, with Rev. Steve Nelson officiating.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Wallace.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Kendrick; children, Tasha Vaughn, Miranda Rogers and Lance Kendrick and wife, Danielle; stepchildren, Chad Tannehill and wife, Bridgett, and Jeff Tannehill and wife, Nicole; eight grandchildren; four step grandchildren; mother, Billie Alderman; brothers and sisters, Alta Mills and husband, Matt, Ronald Wallace and wife, Gayle, Patrick Wallace and Mary Flowers and husband, T.C.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Hugh Allen Mattison
Mr. Hugh Allen Mattison, 77, of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at St. Francis North Hospital.
His funeral was at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at College Place Baptist Church, with Rev. Jimmy Pitson officiating. Interment was at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Survivors include his wife, Rethie M. Mattison; daughter, Peggy Ann Mattison Thurman and husband, Mike; son, Steve Allen Mattison; grandchildren, Bobby Harrison, Erin Bauer, Audrey Arnold and husband, Morgan, Stephanie Huggins and husband, Charles, Steve Allen Mattison Jr., Matthew Mattison, and Megan Roshto; four great-grandchildren, Danielle and Trey Harrison, and Justice and Gabriel Huggins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of College Place Baptist Church.

Glen Allen Newcomer Jr.
Mr. Glen Allen Newcomer Jr., 89, of West Monroe, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe.
His funeral was at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at Highland Presbyterian Church with Dr. George Wortham officiating. Private family graveside services were held following the service under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Cascille Trussell Newcomer; two sons, Brian Newcomer and wife, Diane, and Drew Newcomer, all of West Monroe; grandchildren, Courtney, Abby, Elly and Casey Newcomer; and his sisters, Rubye Barton and Peggy Croslow both of Fort Smith, Ark.

Ronald "Buddy" C. Norred, Sr., 76, of Monroe, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, in Monroe.
His funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, May 22, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe, with Rev. Jeff Smart officiating. Interment was at Mulhearn Memorial Park under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.
He was preceded by his parents and a son-in-law, Robert Jacks.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Delicee "Dee" Norred; daughter, Debra Norred; son, Sonny Norred and wife, Shannon; granddaughters, Taylor Norred and Ashley Norred; and sister, Maggie McLane and husband, Pat.

Christina Stuart Springfield, 33, of Monroe, passed away May 17, 2009, in Monroe.

She was preceded in death by her father, George Ellis Stuart and a daughter, Ashley Taylor.
Survivors include her husband, Christopher Springfield; mother, Vicky Whitton Stuart; children, Austin Taylor, Ruthie Stuart, Nathan Springfield and Buster Springfield; special friend, Mike Ford; brother, Thomas Stuart and wife, Wendy; sisters, Cindy Stuart Pagan and husband, Wayne, Rachel Stuart George and husband, Ben; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Rev. George W. Stamey passed away on May 18, 2009, in Monroe.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. at Start Baptist Church in Start with Pastors Glenn Gulliams, David Sistrunk and Joe Turner officiating. Arrangements were by Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Stamey.
Survivors include his sons, Billy Stamey, Kenneth Stamey and wife, Aimee; daughters, Karen Cumpton and husband, Bill, Margaret Porter and husband, Richard; sister, Flurette Ausborn; brother, David Stamey; 13 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters and his Senior Men's Class.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane Albritton; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; niece, Dorothy Ritchie and her husband, Percy; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Mr. Robert Earl Taylor, 80, of Monroe, were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Weldon Bares officiating. Mr. Taylor passed away Monday, May 18.
Survivors include his wife, Sue W. Taylor; daughter, Nancy Taylor Patterson and husband, Gary, of Houston, Texas; sons, Douglas K. Taylor and wife, Christy, of Sterlington, and Todd Taylor and wife, Sonya, of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Callie and Casey Rhodes, Jill Patterson, Brett and Andrew Stevenson, Caitlin Taylor, Garrett Patterson, Seth Taylor and Rachel Taylor; great-grandson, Houston Rhodes; brother, Lane Taylor of Natchitoches.
Max Leroy Youmans
Funeral services for Max Youmans, 84, of Monroe, were at 2 p.m. Monday, May 18, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Monroe, with Rev. Morris Taylor officiating. Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Garden Cemetery in Terre Haute, Ind., on Thursday, May 21. Arrangements were by Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mr. Youmans died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, of complications from pneumonia.
Survivors include his son, Steve and Cathy Youmans, their daughter, Megan Rose of New York; daughter, Karen Youmans of Illinois; a stepdaughter, Susan and Ed Everett of Monroe; and two nephews, Donald and Robert Youmans.
