U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, held a ceremony to honor three local students for accepting appointments to two top military service academies on Monday, May 18, at his Monroe District Office.

Kristen A Cromwell, the daughter of Keith and Penni Cromwell, has been selected to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy. Cromwell recently graduated from Ouachita High School in Monroe.

Stephen M. Gandy, the son of Jim and Arlene Gandy, has been selected to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy. Gandy recently graduated from Sterlington High School.

Gordon Erik McElroy, the son of Scott and Michele McElroy, has been selected to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. McElroy recently graduated from Rayville High School.

Cromwell, Gandy and McElroy were nominated by Alexander.

"It is a great honor each year for me to nominate bright Louisianians to serve our nation and further their education at our nation's military service academies," said Alexander.

"Receiving an appointment to a service academy is one of the most prestigious accomplishments a college-bound student can achieve. Kristen, Stephen and Gordon exemplify the strength and discipline needed to excel. I am extremely proud of them and their accomplishments. They deserve this honor."
