Claiborne Christian advances

The Claiborne Christian School Crusaders blew past Summerfield on Friday with a 10-0 to advance to the semi-final round of the LHSAA Class C baseball championship tournament.

Jake Bell was the starting and winning pitcher for CCS. Bell pitched four perfect innings and has not allowed any runs this postseason. Bell recorded a playoff-high nine strikeouts against Summerfield.

"Jake (Bell) probably had his best pitched game of the season," CCS head coach Chad Olinde said. "We are playing good defense behind him, too."

Claiborne Christian (15-17) exploded on offense in the second inning with six runs against a stellar Summerfield pitching staff.

Forrest Spillers led the way on offense for CCS as he went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Colby Spillers and Taylor Moore each went 1-for-2 with a double and RBI for the Crusaders.

"We played a lot of small ball against Sumerfield," Olinde said. "We tried to run the bases and had eight stolen bases. We had some good hits."

Claiborne Christian now moves on to Bringhurst Field in Alexandria with a 7 p.m. start today against top-ranked Elizabeth (23-7).

Elizabeth has had flawless defense and pitching in the playoffs. Wins over Grande Isle (10-0) and Dubach (15-0) have proven Elizabeth to be the biggest hurdle to date toward a state championship for the Crusaders.
