Sterlington season ends in 2-1 loss

The Sterlington Lady Panthers (17-13-1) lost to Rosepine 2-1 at Frasch Park in Sulphur Friday to end a great season of softball in Sterlington.

Devan Reese pitched another great game and allowed just two runs on three hits over seven innings of work.

Sterlington took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a RBI double by Hannah Merritt. Emily Jordan scored on the hit after doubling in the previous at-bat.

Reese worked through a perfect first inning in the pitcher's circle to keep the advantage. Rosepine tied the game in the second with a RBI single by Sara White.

Hannah Welborn went 1-for-2 with a run scored that proved to be the difference for Rosepine.

Jordan and Merritt each went 1-for-3 from the plate as Sterlington struggled to solve the late inning pitching of Christiana Hamilton.

Hamilton shut down the Sterlington bats after some first inning miscues and allowed just two base hits during the game.

Rosepine went on to reach the Class 2A state championship game before falling to Evangel Christian of Shreveport, 3-1.
