St. Fred falls in upset
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The St. Frederick Warriors were expected to be one of the top shining stars in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A baseball playoffs this season.

Those dreams came to a crashing halt on Thursday as No.30 South Cameron pulled off a huge upset and beat St. Fred 6-2 at Warrior Field.

Both teams gave up a couple of hits but were able to get out of jams in the opening frame as neither team could push across a run early.

South Cameron got a couple of walks and then a huge triple from Hunter Canik to clear the bases and take a 3-0 lead over the Warriors in the top of the second inning.

St. Fred battled their way back and got a run back on a Jake Johnson double. St. Fred spent much of the time struggling to get the offense going, but found a hole to drive in a run from Johnson in the bottom of the third inning.

St. Fred struck again in the bottom of the sixth inning on triples by Landon Williams and Spencer Craft.

After pulling to within 4-2 going into the seventh inning, St. Fred surrendered a pair of runs to South Cameron that were too tough to overcome.

Brennan Norred pitched brilliantly for seven innings and earned the win for South Cameron.

Zach LaSuzzo suffered the loss for St. Fred after having a solid first inning. The wheels came off in the second inning and the Warriors had no late inning answers for the Tarpons.

St. Fred will reload again next year as a host of seniors make their graduation plans. St. Fred finishes the season with a 22-7 record and the district 2-1A championship.
