Coleman hurls two-hitter to pace LSU over Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Senior right-hander Louis Coleman fired a brilliant two-hit shutout Saturday night to lead fourth-ranked LSU to a 5-0 victory over No. 7 Arkansas in the second game of an SEC doubleheader at Baum Stadium.
Arkansas won the first game, 11-4, behind an outstanding pitching effort by junior left-hander Dallas Keuchel, who limited LSU to three runs on five hits in 8.1 innings.
LSU is 35-13 overall, 15-8 in the SEC. The Tigers are in a first-place tie with Ole Miss and Florida at the top of the SEC standings. Arkansas is 31-13 overall and 14-8 in the SEC, just one-half game behind the league leaders.
LSU and Arkansas meet in the series finale at 1:05 p.m. Sunday. The game will be televised by Cox Sports Television, and it can be heard on the affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network.

Coleman's effort marked the first complete-game shutout by an LSU pitcher since May 1, 2005, when Greg Smith blanked Vanderbilt, 3-0, in Nashville.
After allowing a lead-off single to designated hitter Zack Cox in the second inning, Coleman retired 19 straight Razorback hitters. The streak was broken with one out in the eighth on a pinch-hit double by Jacob House.
"Louis was phenomenal tonight; once again, he demonstrated how valuable he is to our program," said LSU coach Paul Maineri. "He came through for us in a big way after we lost the first game. Louis delivered exactly what we needed and hopefully we can carry some momentum into Sunday's game.
Sophomore right-hander Austin Ross (4-5, 4.92 ERA) is LSU's scheduled starting pitcher on Sunday. Arkansas will counter with sophomore right-hander Brett Eibner (4-2, 3.23 ERA).
LSU grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning of Game 2 as leftfielder Ryan Schimpf delivered an RBI triple, designated hitter Blake Dane lined an RBI single and first baseman Sean Ochinko lifted a sacrifice fly.
The Tigers extended the lead to 4-0 in the fifth on rightfielder Jared Mitchell's RBI single, and LSU added a run in the sixth when first baseman Sean Ochinko scored from third base on an errant pick-off attempt at first base by reliever Sam Murphy.
Arkansas starter T.J. Forrest, who pitched for LSU as a freshman in 2007, was charged with the loss as he surrendered five runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings with three walks and three strikeouts.
Dean launched a two-run homer in the top of the first inning of Game 1 to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Arkansas narrowed the deficit to 2-1 in the second when first baseman Andy Wilkins unloaded a solo homer of off LSU starter Anthony Ranaudo, his 14th dinger of the season.
LSU increased the lead to 3-1 in the fourth on an RBI single by Mitchell, but the Razorbacks erupted for four runs in the fourth against Ranaudo, sending 10 batters to the plate.
A two-run double by centerfielder Brett Eibner and a two-run single by rightfielder Chase Leavitt highlighted the rally, which gave Arkansas a 5-3 advantage.
Arkansas added four more runs in the seventh against LSU reliever Ben Alsup to establish a comfortable 9-3 margin.
Ranaudo dropped to 5-3 with the loss as he was charged with five runs on five hits in six innings with three walks and seven strikeouts.
