Neville begins playoffs

The Neville Tigers will begin the 2009 LHSAA Class 4A playoff race at home on Friday when they host No.19 Parkway at 6 p.m.

Neville is trying to erase the bad memories of a three-game sweep by West Ouachita last weekend that saw the Neville offense average six runs per game.

West Ouachita outscored Neville 23-12 during a double-header Saturday to complete the sweep.

Andrew Parker again had a solid weekend pitching for the Tigers but some defensive miscues and small details in the defensive game hurt Neville against their biggest district rival.

Ben Sartar, Matt Gale and Drew Narmor each had multiple RBI and hits in each game for the Tigers who scored in bunches but could not stop the Chiefs from answering each time and more.

The Parkway Panthers (16-15) were the third-place team in district 1-4A where No.7-seed Benton won the district crown.

Parkway actually beat Benton 2-1 on April 16. The Panthers finished the regular season with a 10-4 league mark.
