Lady Chiefs to play Alexandria
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The West Ouachita Lady Chiefs (31-4) are headed back to the LHSAA state softball tournament after manhandling Grant in a 15-0 three-inning shutout last week.

West Ouachita has been almost unstoppable since the beginning of district play and has had their way in the postseason with a pair of easy wins so far.

Senior Samantha Hamby is pitching perfection even with a torn ACL that she will play through this season.

Hamby got the win on the mound with three scoreless innings in the second-round game against Grant.

Catcher Hannah Laborde went 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored to pace the West Ouachita offense.

Nicole Gross recorded two hits and three RBI for the Lady Chiefs who will attempt to again make the Class 4A state championship game.

West Ouachita will play Alexandria Senior High School in the state tournament quarterfinals Friday at 2 p.m.

ASH is 20-11-2 on the season and has surrendered just six runs in the entire month of April.

The stretch includes two playoff shutouts: a 7-0 win over St. Martinville and last week at 2-0 victory at Neville, a West Ouachita district foe who the Lady Chiefs also beat once this season.

All LHSAA state tournament softball games will be held at Frasch Park in Sulphur.
