Sterlington hosts Red River tonight
The Sterlington Panthers are the top seed of any parish team as they earned a No.2 seed in LHSAA Class 2A baseball playoffs this week.
Sterlington will host No. 31 Red River High School Thursday at 6 p.m. in what will surely be an exciting time for the community of Sterlington.
Clay Branton and Stephen Gandy have been hitting lights out for the Panthers in district play and the fielding and base running errors Sterlington worked on have been improving.
The Panthers are battle tested after playing local powerhouses like St. Frederick, Ouachita, and West Monroe in out-of-district competition.
Red River was the third-place team out of district 3-2A where Menard edged out Many High School for the district crown.
Red River has had pitching problems lately and is giving up an average of 10.75 runs per game over the last four outings.
Red River did beat Lakeview in their final district game this week, 8-2. As a common opponent, Red River lost to Sterlington rival Jonesboro-Hodge 8-0 on Feb 28.
Sterlington beat J-Hodge 15-4 and 12-0 during the regular season on their way to another district 2-2A championship. |
