Shaw to close West Monroe plant
Shaw Group of Baton Rouge announced Tuesday it will shut down its West Monroe facility, eliminating 200 local jobs.
The facility will cease operations, effective June 27.
West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris confirmed Wednesday morning that Shaw Process Fabricators on New Natchitoches Road will close in June.
He described the situation as "very disappointing," but he declined to speak further on the matter.
The Shaw Group responded to The Ouachita Citizen Wednesday in a prepared statement via email.
"Shaw values the contributions of all our employees to the success of our business, and the shutdown of a facility is not a decision we take lightly. Due to the current economic climate, and in an effort to address our current business needs, we will be closing our Shaw Process Fabricators facility in West Monroe, effective June 27," Shaw Group's statement said.
"To assist our employees with finding future opportunities, we will partner with LAWorks, part of the Louisiana Workforce Commission, to provide job counseling, resume building and additional job search tools," the statement said.
Shaw Group was founded in 1987 in Baton Rouge as a fabrication shop. It now has roughly 26,000 employees around the world.
Shaw Group provides engineering, design, construction and maintenance services to government and clients from the private-sector. |
