Story Archives: Neville, WOHS battle for title

Neville, WOHS battle for title

Teams meet three times this weekend

A district champion in 2-4A will be decided Saturday as the Neville Tigers battle the West Ouachita Chiefs.
Neville and West Ouachita have a recent history of battling over the district crown and this series figures to be no different in intensity or importance.
Neville will host the first game on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Embanato Field. The series will then shift to West Ouachita for a Saturday double-header beginning at 2 p.m.
Both teams dropped from the polls this week in the latest coach's association Class 4A poll.
It is a lock both teams will be in the playoff picture, but Neville would like a shot at a district crown while West Ouachita is looking to get back to the top after Neville took home the gold last season.
Neville will depend on the arms of Johnny Joplin and Matt Gayle in the district series as well as the offensive power to score over 10 runs per game in the month of April.
West Ouachita has been just as impressive with over 20 runs per game in a three-game set with Carroll last weekend.
