Story Archives: Ouachita Lions looking for solid playoff spot

Ouachita Lions looking for solid playoff spot
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Ouachita Lions dropped a game to the West Monroe Rebels Saturday afternoon and look to rebound and get another crack Thursday when the teams meet at Lions Field.

Ouachita held West Monroe scoreless for four innings before Corey White broke the game open for the Rebels with a run in the fifth.

West Monroe tied the game 4-4 in the seventh inning and won on a deep fly ball to left field that soared over the left fielder's head and scored D.J. Banks of West Monroe.

Brian Gephardt was brilliant early on and the Lions are seeing vast improvement in district play that just has not translated into victories.

Jason Johnson and Andy Roberts each had RBI hits for the Lions in the first few innings of the contest.

Ouachita may not be able to catch up to West Monroe for a district championship at this point because of head-to-head play, but the Lions are in fine position for a playoff spot when coaches vote beginning May 3.

Ouachita will meet Ruston and Natchitoches Central once more after the West Monroe game.

Ruston hosts Ouachita on Saturday afternoon.
