Poverty Point State Historic Site invites guests to an edible wild plant hike on Saturday, April 25.

The site interpretive ranger will lead hikes at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to locate some of the wild native plants that the ancient people of Poverty Point might have used for food, shelter and medicine.

Poverty Point State Historic Site offers visitors the opportunity to study the culture of area inhabitants from 1600 to 1300 B.C. The $2 admission fee will be waived for this event.

Poverty Point State Historic Site is located in West Carroll Parish, east of Monroe on La. 577. The site is open daily, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
