High school softball playoff picture takes shape

Area high school teams learned where they will play in the first round of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association softball playoffs this month when coaches met in Baton Rouge to determine seeds in each playoff bracket for every classification.

Beginning in Class C, local favorite Claiborne Christian will be the No.2-seed and will host No. 15 seed Family Christian School next week.

Only 16 teams qualified for the Class C playoffs so each team earns a first-round bye. That means Claiborne Christian (16-4) will need to win one game to reach the state tournament in Sulphur for the third time.

In the Class 1A bracket, Ouachita Christian School, which originally was seeded No. 4, was given the No. 1 spot after coaches voted to reseed the Class 1A bracket. OCS (18-3) will entertain No. 29 Ecole Classique from the New Orleans area in the first round.

St. Fred got in the playoff as the No.32 team. The Lady Warriors will travel to top-ranked Oberlin in the first round.

Sterlington (15-12-1) was seeded No. 10 in Class 2A. The Lady Panthers will host a first round game against Many (9-12).

West Ouachita (18-3) was the top area team in Class 4A this season. The Lady Chiefs will host No. 31 McDonough 35. West Ouachita is the No. 2 ranked team in Class 4A this season.

The West Monroe Lady Rebels (23-5) will host Assumption (15-13) in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.
