Local track stars shine

The Jack Williams Relays at West Monroe High School's Rebel Stadium saw numerous local track team send athletes out to show strong performances in many different events last week.

West Monroe won the overall team championship with a team total of 184 points. West Ouachita finished second with 87 total points. The Neville Tigers were the third-place team with 66 points.

Richwood's team came in fifth-place with 52 points followed by Carroll with 42, Wossman with 25, OCS with 23, and Ouachita in ninth place with 17 points.

West Monroe edged Rayville in the 4x200-meter relay with a finishing time of 1:26.53. Richwood was third with a time of 1:31.59.

Demitri Hampton won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.06 seconds for West Monroe. Barkevious Mingo of WMHS was second with a time of 49.69 seconds. Billy Minnifield of West Ouachita was third with a time of 50.91.

Jonas Tyson of West Monroe won the 100-meter dash in 10.81 seconds. Malcolm Carter of West Ouachita was second with a time of 10.88 seconds.

Devin Caldwell and Adam Saadat also won races for West Monroe in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs, respectively.

Neville won several individual events. Jamar Bowie won the triple jump with a mark of 21'6.5". Johnny Dennis won the javelin event for Neville with a throw of 170'1".

Sam Smith from West Ouachita was second-place in the javelin with a throw of 146'1". Justin Ellis won the discus throw after throwing 163'3.5". Jordan Allen of West Monroe was second with a throw of 153'8.25".

West Ouachita also picked up a pair of individual wins with a time of 14.59 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles from Ray Moss. Favin Richard of Carroll took second place with a time of 15.59 seconds.

Jacob Heckford also won the 800-meter race for West Ouachita after completing the race in 2:06 minutes. Zach Edminston of West Ouachita was second.

Braden Bristo of OCS won the pole vault event with a jump of 13'2.5". Josh Tarver was the high jump winner from Carroll with a jump of 6'2".
