Sterlington slices through opponents
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Sterlington Panthers recovered from a loss at West Monroe to blast past a pair of opponents early in the week.

Sterlington won another district game with a 12-0 decision in five innings over Jonesboro-Hodge Monday night.

Sterlington came out swinging the bats hard and got early run production that the defense protected for the win.

Clay Branton, Stephen Gandy, Cole Bagby and Logan Dobson all picked up RBI hits for the second-ranked Panthers as they are still perfect in district 2-2A play and just behind Evangel Christian in the Class 2A state poll.

Sterlington was not done with their offensive showcase as they bombed Kilbourne on Tuesday night by a score of 16-1.

Gandy blasted two home runs and twins Clay and Clint Branton each got RBI hits for the Panthers.

Sterlington will travel to Lake Providence on Thursday at 6 p.m. The Panthers have already locked up the district championship with only two more district ball games left to play.

Ferriday will host Sterlington on Monday night in the final district game of the 2009 season. Farmerville is currently second in the district followed by Jonesboro-Hodge, Ferriday and Lake Providence.

The team will be looking to improve their stock and lock up a top three playoff seed when they meet powerhouse teams such as West Ouachita, OCS and St. Fred in the last week of the regular season.

Coaches will meet to vote on playoff seeds on April 28 in Baton Rouge.
