Story Archives: Ouachita travels to Natchitoches Central

Ouachita travels to Natchitoches Central

The Ouachita Lions (10-12, 2-2 district 2-5A) play a pair of important district games this week including a Saturday afternoon road trip to Natchitoches Central.

The Lions are no stranger to the Chiefs and have had big success against Natchitoches.

In two previous meetings, Ouachita has beaten the Lions 13-3 and 14-2. The most recent win came last Thursday in a great power hitting performance for the Lions.

Brian Gebhardt is rounding into a complete threat on the mound and in the batter's box for the Lions.

Andy Roberts and Jason Johnson are also hovering around the top of the stats in hitting as each week Ouachita is finding that they have another star in the order.

Ouachita is currently tied for second in the district with Ruston and the Lions each having a 2-2 record in district play. West Monroe is 4-0 and leads the district race.

Natchitoches Central (11-10, 0-4) has struggled in district play and is currently in fourth place.

With many more district games to go, Ouachita will get a shot at West Monroe Thursday night and then play Ruston again next week.

The fundamentals and defense are coming around for the Lions and they could very well be in a position to make a big move in the district standings over the next couple of weeks.

Ouachita was leading West Monroe 3-0 in the third inning on April 2 when the wheels fell off and the Rebels stormed back to win 7-5.

It is a game that proved the Lions could hang with the Rebels and make some noise when they put everything together on the field.
