Ouachita falls to West Monroe

Ouachita split recent contests against local rivals with a 7-5 loss to West Monroe Saturday while the Lions pulled out a 3-2 victory over Sterlington Tuesday evening.

Against West Monroe, Ouachita jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as the Lions offense rocked West Monroe's Steven Smith on the mound.

Ouachita extended the lead to 3-0 in the third inning when Adam Coco platted another run with an RBI double.

West Monroe made a furious comeback by scoring seven runs in the final four innings to erase the hope of another district win for Ouachita.

Brian Gebhardt was brought in to stop the carnage but was unable to hold down the West Monroe offense, though he did record three strike-outs in the later stages of the contest.

Andy Roberts and Jason Johnson each had a pair of hits for Ouachita as the Lions continued to improve at the dish each week.

Ouachita got back into the win column on Tuesday night with a 3-2 win over the Sterlington Panthers in another hotly contested affair.

Ouachita scored three runs in the second inning and used stellar defense and a great pitching performance by Kyle Morace to squeak by Sterlington.

Ouachita allowed a pair of runs in the fourth inning, but Ouachita would not allow any Sterlington base runner past second base in the final three innings to secure the victory.

Morace went the distance for a young Ouachita pitching staff, which is getting its groove and putting some things together as the regular season comes down the home stretch in the month of April.

Natchitoches Central visits Ouachita Thursday night as the Lions continue district play.

Ouachita will then take the Easter weekend off before three straight district road games beginning Tuesday at Ruston High School.
